The Cajah’s Mountain town council approved a $767,000 general fund budget for the fiscal year that begins July 1, a $13,000 increase, or less than 2%, from the current year’s budget.
The town has no property tax rate, so the town’s revenue is primarily sales tax allocated to the town, Town Manager Randy Feierabend said.
The general fund pays for all basic public works and utilities.
Feierabend said that there is no increase in utility rates from last year. Residents will continue to pay $24.58 for the first 3,000 gallons and $8.19 for every additional 1,000 gallons used.
“Even though Lenoir increased their water and sewer rates by 2%, the town (Cajah’s Mountain) covers the difference so our residents don’t see a raise in rates,” he said. “We look out for them in that way.”
About $200,000 is allocated for town improvements, including reroofing town hall, purchasing a new swing set for the park and repaving some streets and parking lots throughout the town, he said.
