A Gamewell man came home early Thursday to find that his home had burned to the ground, the Gamewell Fire Department said.
The fire started in a mobile home at 3071 Huffman Road sometime before 4 a.m., when the man arrived home, Assistant Chief Michael Brewer said.
The name of the man who lived in the home was not available. Caldwell County property records indicate that the property belonged to Brian Scott Gragg.
The man told firefighters he had a cat that may have been inside, but they could not find evidence of it in the rubble.
Firefighters asked the man if he needed assistance, and he said family members were helping him.
Brewer said it was so foggy Thursday morning that the people nearby probably could not see the fire when it was burning.
When firefighters arrived, aside from a couple of areas that were smoldering, the fire was out.
The Caldwell County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
