On March 2, Tuttle Educational State Forest begins operating on new spring/summer hours of 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, and 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. It will be closed on Mondays. The “Schaefer Center Presents” virtual performing arts series, presented by Appalachian State University’s Office of Arts and Cultural Programs, will feature one of the country’s most celebrated contemporary dance companies, BalletX, on Thursday, Feb. 25, at 8 p.m. The SCP virtual event is free, but registration is required online at https://theschaefercenter.org/.
Happy Valley Ruritan will have a bingo fundraiser on Friday, Feb. 26, at the clubhouse, 1317 Yadkin River Road, Patterson, at 7 p.m. Snacks and drinks will be available from 6 p.m. until games start. The deadline for applications during the Caldwell County Schools’ open enrollment period, when families may apply for students to transfer out of their home districts, is Feb. 28. After Feb. 28, parents must show severe, extenuating circumstances in order to justify a transfer. The one-page application, more detailed information, and policies regarding student transfers are posted on the school district website, caldwellschools.com.
