HUDSON — One person is dead after an altercation in the Dollar General parking lot on Friday.

Officers say the fight broke out around 8:34 p.m. on Hickory Boulevard before culminating in the parking lot of the Hudson Dollar General on Pine Mountain Road.

Officers say Terry Dale Hefner, 44, of Hickory, and Jody Shane Maltba, 33, of Lenoir, began shooting at one another.

Hefner was shot multiple times and pronounced dead at the scene. Maltba received life-threatening injuries and was taken to Carolinas Medical Center. Maltba is in critical but stable condition as of Monday.

“We spent most of the weekend speaking with a long list of people on what happened,” said Chief Richard Blevins, Hudson Police Department. “We still have several we want to speak to. Out of courtesy to the family, we’re waiting on (Maltba) to stabilize before we speak with him as we continue the investigation.”

The investigation is still on-going and there are no further details at this time.
