Skeletal remains found in the Gamewell area in late November have been identified as a man reported missing last year, the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office said.
Jesse Whisnant, 41, was last seen alive by his family as he was being dropped off near a mobile home on Old North Road on March 10.
The remains were found Nov. 29 between the entrance to the county landfill and Cheraw Road along with documents identifying Whisnant, Capt. Aaron Barlowe said. A medical examiner later formally identified the remains.
His cause of death could not be determined because of the condition of the remains, but investigators don’t suspect foul play, Barlowe said.
His family was notified of his death.
His mother, Lynda Whisnant, said she still has questions.
“I just kept praying they’d find his remains, you know, so I’d know for sure. But I still don’t know what happened to him,” she said. “It said ‘undetermined’ on the death certificate” for his cause of death.
