Clifford Boyd Ellis, 59, of Lenoir passed away Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2021, at his residence. He was born Sept. 7, 1961, in Caldwell County to the late Boyden Edward and Donnie Burgess Ellis. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Hilda Joyce Ellis Tolbert.
Mr. Ellis worked as a deputy at the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Department. He was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church. He taught DARE for several years, was a minister of Cops4Christ, instructed firearms courses, was a hostage negotiator, a member of SASS, and he coached baseball. He loved his family dearly and will be missed by many.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 40 years, Robin P. Ellis; two sons, Bradley Edward Ellis and wife Sarah of Morganton, and Ryan Jacob Ellis and girlfriend Anna Pruitt of the home; one daughter, Bailey Erin Ellis of the home; two sisters, Martha Ellis Moose of Hickory and Audrey Ellis of Lenoir; two grandchildren, Hunter Edward Ellis and Piper Mae Ellis of Morganton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at Union Grove Baptist Church on Friday, Jan. 15, 2021, at 1 p.m. conducted by the Rev. Sam Craven. Interment will follow at Ellis Family Cemetery.
Due to COVID-19, social distancing and masks will be required.
Serving as pallbearers will be members of law enforcement.
