Gary Vance Collins Sr., 75, of Lenoir passed away Tuesday, April 20, 2021, at his residence. He was born Jan. 29, 1946, in Catawba County to the late Zeb Vance and Faye Clontz Collins. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son-in-law, Jeff Gonzalez.
Gary loved God Almighty and his family. He enjoyed hot rods, old cars, fishing, riding horses, and family outings. He also enjoyed cooking and made some of the best chicken and dumplings and enjoyed sharing his cooking with others. Anyone who knew Gary knew how he really enjoyed “mashing” noses. His love of life and storytelling just to make people smile will be greatly missed.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 35 years, Cynthia Silva Collins of the home; three sons, Michael Miller of Conover, Chad Collins of Tennessee, and Gary Vance Collins Jr. of the home; five daughters, Carol Collins Gonzalez of Missouri, Jamie Lawson and husband Brandon of Colorado, Shanna Collins of Texas, Brandy Collins of North Carolina, and Samantha Collins and husband Enrique of Colorado; three sisters, Sharon Atwood and husband Ron, Wanda Banks and husband Mike, and Dorothy Collins, all of Hickory; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
