Michael Lee Holman passed away on April 27, 2021, after a period of declining health. Born in Lenoir on June 7, 1947, Mike was the youngest child of Mildred and Dewey Holman. He attended Lenoir-Rhyne College and graduated with the class of 1969. After college, he enlisted in the Army National Guard in 1970.
Mike enjoyed a long and fulfilling career with Bernhardt Furniture until his retirement in 2008. He was a lifelong sports enthusiast, famously taking time off work to enjoy the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament each year. He enjoyed playing tennis and taking long walks. Mike also treasured vacations with his family. Among his favorite destinations to visit were Gatlinburg, Surfside Beach, and Mount Airy.
Mike had a profound appreciation for life’s simple pleasures, be it a hot cup of black coffee, an intense sports game, a deep album cut from his favorite record, a classic movie, or a fried pork chop sandwich from the Snappy Lunch. Most importantly, he loved and was loved in return by his neighbors, friends, and family, especially his beloved wife and son.
Mike was preceded in death by his mother and father, Mildred and Dewey Holman. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 40 years, Jackie of Lenoir; son, Tyler (Lauren) of Asheville; sister, Sandra Poteat (Bob) of Charlotte; a devoted extended family; and his canine companion, Baxter.
A memorial service celebrating Mike’s life will be held in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Sunday, May 2, 2021, at 3 p.m.
The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 prior to the service.
