Born July 29, 1939, in Caldwell County, he was the son of the late Isaac Ike Melton Starnes and Ora Dell Bowman Starnes.

Robert Lee Starnes of Granite Falls passed away Monday, May 15, 2023, at his residence.
Born July 29, 1939, in Caldwell County, he was the son of the late Isaac Ike Melton Starnes and Ora Dell Bowman Starnes.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Amy Cherie Starnes; brothers, John and Landon Starnes; sisters, Odell Teague, and Lucille Phillips.
He was a life-time member of Grace Chapel UMC, Granite Falls.
Survivors include his wife of 52 plus years, Rebecca Rae Bumgarner Starnes of the home; son, Robert Melton Starnes of Hickory; sisters, Polly Moore of Hickory, and Nancy Farmer of Granite Falls; grandchildren, Chelsea Grant (Ethan), Emily Starnes, Christopher Starnes, Jamie Starnes, Whitley Starnes; great grandchildren, Norah Grant, Waylen Wooten, Blake Moser, Skyler Starnes.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 19, 2023, 3:00 p.m. at Grace Chapel UMC with Pastor Phillip Hefner and Pastor Mitch Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the church prior to the service.
Serving as pallbearers will be Christopher Starnes, Avery Fox, Wayne Link, Ethan Grant, Wesley Starnes, Randy Starnes. Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Link, Ronnie Bowman, Alan Grant.
The family wishes to thank Mr. Starnes special care giver, Alfreda Link and Amorem Hospice for their love and compassion.
