Panthers claim golf crown

Hibriten’s Trinity White, shown here teeing off at Brushy Mountain Golf Club last week, fired an even-par 36 on Tuesday at Silver Creek Golf Club in Morganton and helped the Panthers secure the Northwestern Conference team championship.

Hibriten dominated the field at the final Northwestern 3A/4A conference meet Tuesday at Silver Creek Golf Club in Morganton, carding a three-score total of 126 en route to claiming the conference’s team championship.

The Panthers finished with a season total of 958, 58 shots ahead of second-place Alexander Central’s 1,016. South Caldwell finished fourth in the conference with a season total of 1,138.

Trinity White led the Panthers with an even-par score of 36 at Silver Creek and claimed medalist honors. Mabry Land carded a 44 for Hibriten, followed by Lana McCall of South Caldwell with a 45. Hibriten’s Virginia Anders shot 46, while South Caldwell’s Rylee Farr came in with 51. Kayla Watson shot 57 for the Spartans followed by a 61 from teammate Morgan Ingle. Kenzie Jurney finished with a 62 for the Panthers, and South Caldwell’s Anna Cline carded a 67.

The all-conference team and the conference player of the year will be announced when the postseason has concluded for all teams in the league, per the bylaws of the Northwestern Conference.

Volleyball Wolves 3, Warriors 0

Lincolnton swept visiting West Caldwell in Catawba Valley Athletic Conference action on Tuesday.

The Warriors (0-16, 0-10 CVAC) are scheduled to visit West Lincoln today for a conference match. The Rebels (8-10, 4-6 CVAC) defeated Newton-Conover 3-2 on Tuesday.
