Golf U.S. Junior AmateurMaddox Whittington closed the stroke play portion of the U.S. Junior Amateur with a 4-over 75 on the Cardinal Course of the Country Club of North Carolina in Pinehurst.

Whittington finished at 7 over par with two rounds of 75, well behind medalist Kelly Chinn, who shot 11 under par in the stroke play portion of the event and joined some high-level company as he tied the 36-hole record of 132 and became the latest multiple medalist in the event; he shot the lowest stroke-play score three years ago at Baltusrol Golf Club. Three-time Junior Amateur winner Tiger Woods, Willie Wood and Jim Liu also won multiple medalist honors.

Whittington, who will be a senior at Hibriten High School this fall, recovered from a shaky 39 on his first nine holes of the second round with birdies on 10 and 11 before bogeys got him on the 614-yard par 5 15th and the 224-yard par 3 17th. He closed with an even-par 36 on his final nine holes.

“A week I will never forget! Unbelievable experience playing in the US Junior am here in North Carolina!” he said Wednesday in an Instagram post.
