South Caldwell opened its volleyball season with a 25-13, 25-12, 26-24 win Tuesday over Freedom.
Addison Blair was dominant in the middle for the Spartans with nine kills and three blocks. Jasmine Hall had 17 assists, and Emma Grace Hiatt won the last four points of the match on her serve while also contributing several kills in the match.
Spartans coach Natalie Speagle also gave kudos to libero Ciera Hanson for her receiving of serves. Speagle was also pleased with her team’s passing, defense and hustle.
The Spartans’ junior varsity also defeated the Patriots 26-24, 25-15.
South Caldwell, which honored seniors Blair, Hanson, Hiatt, Hall and Gracie White on the team’s Senior Night, faced Hickory on Wednesday.
Bunker Hill 3, Hibriten 1Bunker Hill defeated Hibriten 25-16, 20-25, 25-13, 25-13 in season-opening action Tuesday. The Panthers fell into an 8-0 hole in the first set and just couldn’t climb out, said coach Jennings Vess. Hibriten took the second set 25-20, but Bunker Hill put the match away with 25-13 wins in the third and fourth sets.
Zoe Waters finished with six kills and three blocks for the Panthers, while Emma Poarch tallied three kills and three blocks. Jordan Schlagater dished out 15 assists, and Hadlie Nichols had 15 digs and five assists.
The Bears also won the JV match 25-18, 22-25, 15-13.
The Panthers return to action Thursday at West Caldwell.
